The deciduous tropical forest (BTC) is one of the most diverse tropical ecosystems in America, but it is also one of the most threatened ecosystems (Janzen 1988). In Mexico it covers 8% of its territory (Trejo and Dirzo 2000) and is home to a large number of endemic species.
