The Chimalapas region is located in the east of the state of Oaxaca, bordering Chiapas and Veracruz, and includes the Sierra Atravesada, the Sierra de Tres Picos and the Sierra Espinazo del Diablo and the basins of the Corte and Alto Uxpanapa rivers.
