Iriomote Island is the world’s smallest island that is home to wild cats. There is only 289㎢. It is very important to protect the habitat for in-situ conservation of the Iriomote cat. Based on the significance of each place on Iriomote Island as a habitat for Iriomote wildcats, consider the effects of development projects (construction of facilities for tourism and land improvement for farmland maintenance) on wildcats. We evaluate and recommend appropriate measures to related organizations. We are also proposing ways to regulate the total amount of “Eco-tours” that enter the wildcats’ habitats, as well as how to restrict the observation and photography of wildcats.
