At a global level, cracids are one of the most threatened bird families due to the loss of habitat and the hunting to which they are subjected. Cracids are important seed dispersers and play a key role in the regeneration of tropical forests.

Studying the habitat use of a species allows us to know how that species manages to complete the requirements of its life history and how are the distribution patterns of individuals through different types of habitat. Understanding the use and selection of habitat is essential in order to identify the important habitats to conserve and to be able to apply management strategies for the species.

The information on the diet of the turkeys can also be critical to infer the way they use the habitat.
