Since 2010 Mision TiburonĀ is implementing different tagging programs, with conventional and acoustic tags. The aim of these programs is improve the knowledge on habitat use, dynamic population and migrations of elasmobranches species.
Mision tiburon is using this methodology in the following geographic areas:
Golfo Dulce, South Pacific of Costa Rica:
Mision Tiburon is using acoustic tags for hammerhead shark (for more information see Conservation of Hammerhead Shark); and conventional tags for tiger shark, blacktip shark, sting rays, eagle rays, among others.
Guanacaste Conservation Area, North Pacific of Costa Rica:
Mision Tiburon is using acoustic technology for studying the site fidelity and the migrations of bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas) in Guanacaste (For more information see Bull Shark Project).
Cocos Island National Park (CINP), located 600 km off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica:
Mision Tiburon with the support of CINP is studying the habitat use and the dynamic population of reef sharks, such as white tip shark (Triaenodon obesus) and the black tip shark (Carcharhinus limbatus) (For more information see White Tip Project).
